I’m Hali Laricey.
As your Functional Wellness Specialist, I’m here to help you get answers and get better.
Here’s my story.
I come from a very close-knit family. My grandparents, on my mom’s side, lived with us when I was in high school. Before then, they would come for extended stays, and we went for long visits to see them in Florida most summers. This is how it always was in previous generations, too - the elders moved in with the next, younger generation. Those were some of the best days of my life. Then, one day, I remember being told my grandmother had been diagnosed with advanced cancer. It was a terrible feeling for us three kids, and I can only imagine the impact on my mom and dad, and especially on my grandfather. I’ll give you the short version here because it applies to what’s in my genes.
After this devastating diagnosis, I saw my Mom become some sort of Wonder Woman with her determination to get her mother the help and support she needed and deserved. Leaving no stone unturned, she was relentless in her pursuit of knowledge, information, and options to cure my Grandear. I continued to see these Wonder Woman qualities manifest when her father, my Granstan, was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and later, Alzheimer’s. I witnessed her passion, her drive, her determination, her love. I think I inherited those wonderful qualities from her.
Now a little about me. After having two babies later in life and 15 months apart, let’s just say some female issues arose that became bothersome. When I asked my doctor what I could do about one particular issue, I was offhandedly told that there was nothing I could do. When it got to the point of misery, I’d beg for surgery. I refused to accept this as the only option. I poured myself into researching these common issues for women. I found a better alternative and avoided surgery.
Someone very dear to me was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. His urologist advised him to have his prostate removed. Another specialist said he was the perfect candidate for radioactive seed placement, and yet another highly recommended cryotherapy. Was there another option? After countless hours of relentless research, I found answers. I found alternatives. Thus, he decided to embrace an entirely different, healthier path that produced little to no side effects. Cancer is never easy, but many times there are numerous other options we just don’t know about.
Another precious loved one was diagnosed with a seizure condition. After weeks of feeling dazed and confused before, during, and after the diagnosis, I knew there had to be more pieces to this puzzle. Weeks and months of persistent searching finally produced the answers I sought. Nutrition and lifestyle were key factors. In addition, blood tests performed at my request revealed many more puzzle pieces. I was decisively equipped to support this child on his path to recovery.
Furthermore, I’ve seen others with anxiety, depression, and panic with resulting headaches, fatigue, irrational worries, and insomnia. I’ve helped to reconcile these different pathways. I’ve identified the hormones that are out of whack. The food choices that led to deficiencies in the body systems. The neurological pathways that needed to be rewired. I knew a popular pill wasn’t the only option.
It is my commitment to get the best outcome that drives me. It is the same drive that will get me the answers you want now.
